Dear Members, Grüezi,
Freshly off the back of the Swiss National Celebrations in Jonkershoek, we are sending you this newsletter still on a “high” after another superb event with our loyal members and friends. We were once again blessed with amazing weather and enjoyed a most beautiful day celebrating our Swiss heritage with themed food, drinks, and music.
Thank you to our Consul, Richard Jud, for stepping in, in Rolf Frei’s absence, addressing us with his very own “Neujahrsansprache”!
The official speech of the President of the Swiss Confederation, Karin Keller-Sutter, can be watched here:
Many thanks as well to Tim, from our very own National Day “Huusmusig”, the Flamingo Ramblers, for once again stepping it up solo when his duet partner Wilfried was absent.
We also enjoyed a most beautiful Raclette this year. Many thanks to Claudia and Markus Hischier, who were present and working that station the whole day by themselves! It just tastes even better when someone from the origin of Raclette is serving it up.
Additionally, thanks to our loyal braai masters, Lionel and Patrick. Their passion and engagement at the fire pit is slowly becoming an annual highlight.
Apart from the Raffle, once again it delivered the most amazing prizes, such as the Eco Max flights for two to Switzerland sponsored by Edelweiss, and this year, for the very first time, a fully automatic Jura coffee machine sponsored by Fabian Reck from Fabino Coffee. This added even more value to an already long list of top prizes.
Once again, thanks to your large participation and the generous donations from our sponsors, the Swiss Club was able to generate much-needed funds to sustain our club and venue in Jonkershoek. As I write this, for example, we have just ordered clearing of some trees which fell into the river from our side. You see, your support is always needed!
Thank you to EVERYONE for making this year’s National Day celebrations another special day in our history books!
Apart from that successful event, we now all wait for the final few weeks of winter to pass so we can look forward to our summer events. We are, however, scheduling one more “Fondue Plausch” on Saturday, 20 September 2025 to say goodbye to a long winter – so keep your eyes glued to our news flashes.
I am additionally very glad to report that our former President, Nicky Rodrigues, has decided to join our club committee again in her previously held capacity as Secretary. This position had been vacant for a long time and was held by myself in dual function. I am glad we now have a competent and long-standing member joining us in this very important function. Thank you, Nicky, for awarding us your time!
As a final note, I would like to remind everyone that the “Jonkershoek-team” can always use more hands on any weekends or during our events. Please ask Tracey and Patricia for WhatsApp group details to stay in touch.
I look forward to seeing you all soon and, as always, THANK YOU for your continuous support of our Club and your interest in the Swiss Social Community in Cape Town.
Bis bald,
Christian
